(More customer reviews)I checked this book out of the library. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it because at the time I was suffering through my own infertility. But once I started I was hooked. I could relate to Diana so easily, the heartache that occured at the same time each month, and the feeling that there was something wrong long before I went to any doctor. Like Diana, I too was able to overcome this problem, and now have two beautiful sons (our own biological children, too!) I didn't relate quite as well to the other couples, but did find their stories facinating as well. The research Danielle Steel did was very good except for one flaw - when Pillar had her miscarriage around New Year's she was back in getting another insemination done the next month -I also had this procedure done and doctors will not do this procedure for three months after a miscarriage. Also her discription of the procedure itself was a little different than mine. But excellent reading none the less!

The Other Mothers' Club: A Novel Review

(More customer reviews)I loved this book. I don't normally write reviews, but I thought it would be only fair for such a unique book. I am reviewing the book as a custodial stepmother. There aren't too many of us around, for a variety of reasons, but even less resources. I know this is a fiction book, but it spoke to me on so many levels. It clearly articulated the many difficulties I have felt in my own life adjusting to life as a custodial stepmom, as well as remembered the children, and even, through Clare, the difficulties of a bio-mom letting go of her child to a stranger. It covers all levels of the stepmother development, some more than others certainly, from the first introduction to the children, to what happens when you go from Dad's "friend" to the outsider in the home he's created. I highly recommend it as a good read, and just as a way for stepmothers to read something where someone else has obviously been in their shoes and can write what they themselves may not be able to say.

Vigil: A Novel (Wsp Readers Club) Review

(More customer reviews)Vigil is an interesting and beautifully written novel. Although you may think this would be a disheartening story, it was not. Yes, there is sadness, but is also a story about happiness, friendship, and family. Each character is carefully developed with Ana as the one moral constant in the family. Eventually she is influenced by the immorality of the family members and conflict occurs.
The story was captivating as Ana reflects back on her life starting as a child in El Salvador hiding from soldiers. As she tends to her dying love, she reflects on her memories of her mother and childhood friends to her life as a postulant. I enjoyed Vigil for its rich descriptions and interesting characters. It was a romantic novel without being a typical "Romance" novel.
