Valerie is attracted to the sheriff but a shameful secret keeps her from getting involved with anyone. She has a letter in her possession revealing she is the great great granddaughter of town legend Jessamine Golden and clues to where the gold and answers to her families questions are buried. When their attraction proves overwhelming, Valerie and Gavin are soon involved but she knows she has to reveal her past if there is any chance for them at all. When circumstances point to the unknown murderer being a woman, Gavin's collegues in the Texas Cattleman's Club question whether Valerie can be involved.
This was a sweet passionate ending to the series not quite as edgy as a couple of the other books but very good indeed.
