This is a sheer delight from start to finish, Nora Roberts at her very best. A prequel to "The MacGregor Grooms," it's the type of book you read at one sitting and then get sad because there isn't any more! A must for hopeless romantics.

I refuse to buy the next book to find out who the killer is just on principle. I didn't buy the book to be hooked into a future purchase. I wanted to read a story that has a beginning, a middle, and an ending. Don't waste your hard earned free time on this book because you don't get the ending. That will come out in a year from now!!! I think an author that pulls these tricks needs to go back to school and learn that every story has 3 parts. I will only be a sucker once!!! I will never buy one of her books again!!

THE SUMMER I DARED is a beautiful love story as much as a character study of an individual finding courage with her second chance at life. The eccentric secondary cast, especially the barrier island crowd, keeps the tale from turning too inwardly maudlin while also enabling the audience to see the inner struggles of the heroine. Noah has his own demons in a neglected teenage son. All this adds up to a wonderful in depth relationship drama that focuses on the turmoil of good caring people.

Honeysuckle Summer (Sweet Magnolias) Review

(More customer reviews)Ms. Woods generally writes a good solid story, but this one contains references to previous stories in the series that are irritating and distracting. I don't want a rehash of what the previous books and their characters did, I've already read that.
I found the use of agoraphobia a trifle contrived and having yet another character with an eating disorder--the subject already covered and recovered in a previous tale or two--makes me wonder if Ms. Woods has lost her imagination.
Those things aside, the characters were fairly strong representations, and though not the best story in the Sweet Magnolias series, it was palatable.

You can bet if Nicholas Sparks puts a book out there, it is going to sell. This scenario is due to his expertise as a storyteller extraordinaire. His latest work, The Lucky One will be touted by readers as one of his best works. Having written books like Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, readers know what they can expect when they buy a Nicholas Sparks book...great characters, great storyline and an electricity that stays with you long after you have finished reading the story.
Sparks main character in The Lucky One is ex-marine, Logan Thibault. Logan has served three tours of duty in Iraq and believes his survival is due to a lucky picture he found of an unknown woman. Once he completes his tour of duty, he walks from Colorado to Hampton, North Carolina in search of the woman in the picture.

If you are looking for a beach read romance, SUMMER BY THE SEA by Susan Wiggs is not a bad place to start. It's a light summer romance about two lovers, Rosa Capoletti and Alex Montgomery, who are from two different worlds. Her father is a gardener, and Alex's family is wealthy enough to have a summer home in Winslow, where Rosa grows up. It is during the summer months that Alex and Rosa spend time together and eventually fall in love. But due to reasons unknown to Rosa, Alex one summer leaves Winslow, never to return. No phone calls, and no letters. It is as if their relationship, their friendship, never happened.
Rosa is now a successful restaurant owner, burying herself in her work, and Alex lives in the big city, working for his father's firm. When Rosa finds out that Alex has come back to Winslow, after being gone for twelve years, she is filled with conflicting thoughts. She realizes she has never gotten over him, and she also knows that in order to move on, she needs to confront her feelings. Whether she is successful or not is up to the reader to find out.
In the midst of this romance, Susan Wiggs has placed delicious Italian recipes that will have your mouth watering. It also helps lend a summertime atmosphere to the book, enhancing the feel of this romance.
I enjoyed SUMMER BY THE SEA and it's made me a new fan of Susan Wiggs. This was a delightful romance, very enjoyable and fun to read, and I recommend to other romance readers. It's a great escape and probably best read during the summer months. If anything, the recipes will make this book a keeper!

(More customer reviews)"Right Next Door" is a reissue of two previously published books by Debbie Macomber. "Father's Day" was originally published in 1991 and "The Courtship of Carol Sommars" was originally published in 1990.
"Father's Day"
Now that Robin Masterson has bought a new house, her ten year old son Jeff wants nothing more than a dog, which unfortunately Robin can't afford. Jeff soon bonds with the dog next door and Robin soon finds herself bonding with the dog's owner Cole Camden. Robin and Jeff seem to break the wall that Cole built around his heart after a devastating tragedy but Robin can't help but wonder if Cole is getting involved with them for the wrong reasons. It will take everything Cole has to convince Robin that he is indeed falling in love with her.
"Father's Day" is a very cute romance by Debbie Macomber. Macomber does a good job of mixing the sad moments (Cole's back story) with some humorous moments (like Robin trying to catch Jeff's pitches or Jeff's idea of how babies are made). The romance between Robin and Cole is a good one and Macomber does a nice job of showing how Cole changes the more he encounters Robin and Jeff. Jeff is a great character who just wants a dog (and a father)."The Courtship of Carol Sommars"
After a disastrous marriage, the last thing Carol Sommars wants is another relationship. But her fifteen year old son Peter has other ideas - he thinks Alex Preston, the father of his best friend James, would be perfect for his mother. Alex thinks so too, but it will take the efforts of all three to help convince Carol that Alex is the right man for her.
"The Courtship of Carol Sommars" is another winner by Debbie Macomber. Carol is a very convincing character who is unsure of her own heart after making the wrong decisions at an early age. Alex is also a good character who is ready to start looking for love again after the devastating loss of his wife. The romantic tension between the two is very well done and by Macomber's standards (her romances are usually very "sweet") this is a hot romance. Peter and James are also good characters although they often seem younger than fifteen. Carol's Italian mother Angelina Pasquale adds a great deal of warmth and humor to the book."Right Next Door" is a nice reissue of two early Debbie Macomber books. Macomber does tend to repeat storylines (a lot of people die in car crashes in these two books) and her younger characters (Jeff, Peter, and James) are a bit too perfect to be true. Still both stories are guaranteed to warm your heart and put a smile on your face. Highly recommended.

(More customer reviews)The so-called hero is a spineless man who repeatedly walks out on the heroine, because she's not the kind of woman he was raised to marry. These aren't spoilers, because all this is revealed early on in the book.
The first time he leaves her to marry another woman in order to please his father, the second time the now-divorced hero has a one-night stand with her when they run into each other at a conference, and the third time he hires the heroine in a professional capacity, so he can have a quick fling with her before he marries yet someone else.
What the hero doesn't know is that the one-night stand resulted in a child, now three years old. Once he finds out about the child, he suddenly realizes that he's loved the heroine all along.
As far as I'm concerned, he's a day late and a dollar short. His behavior over the years is absolutely disgraceful. He's a weak man, who lacks the courage of his convictions. As a result, he's spent his entire adult life treating the various women in his life -- the heroine, his first wife, his intended second wife and all the other women in between -- with utter disrespect.
For a decade, he's treated the heroine like a toy to play with and then discard at will. Worse, the heroine let him treat her like that. What's that old saying? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Well, shame on the heroine.

This was a sweet passionate ending to the series not quite as edgy as a couple of the other books but very good indeed.

The Last Time They Met: A Novel Review

(More customer reviews)I highly recommend reading Anita Shreve's "THE WEIGHT OF THE WATER" before you begin "THE LAST TIME WE MET." But whatever you do, definitely read them both. The stories are surprisingly intertwined with characters taking us through the most important times of their lives. Lives filled with hope, love, loyality, success, betrayal, loss, and deep regrets. Both endings will leave you feeling stunned. You will, no doubt, find yourself wanting to re-read the last chapters over and over again. When a book grabs you this way, I consider it a successful story told (despite how I feel about the outcome). Anita Shreve is a wonderful author and "THE LAST TIME WE MET" (as well as "THE WEIGHT OF THE WATER") is an excellent read. Don't pass these two books up!

(More customer reviews)I have to agree with "readsalot", I got half way thru this book and wondered why Liz would even want this guy! Liz is really great---kind, caring,almost too good.
Ethan, on the other hand, thinks primarily about himself and his own needs and wants. Liz nails it when she says that he has only ever loved his own family. If you read the first in this series, "Chasing Perfect" then you'll know that he didn't speak to his best friend Josh for 10 years because Josh became the champion cyclist that Ethan wanted to be and couldn't because of an injury. Then he trashes Liz who he supposedly loves; greets her when she returns to Fool's Gold as though nothing had ever happened; blames HER because he didn't know about his son (inspite of the fact that she had proof that she tried to tell him twice), then trashes her to her own son. This is a love story? I was so frustrated and angry at the end I had to remind myself that this was only a work of fiction. Unless you have masochistic tendencies don't waste your time or money on this would be romance.

Her latest tale is an exciting romantic suspense novel that works because of Kate, who already has a full plate, but more emotionally wrenching items pile onto her angst-laden soul. By limiting the paranormal elements, Ms. Martin capably enhances her story line while staying true to the theme. Sub-genre fans will take pleasure from this convincing story.

(More customer reviews)This is my first Catherine Coulter contemporary that I have read, I have all of her romances. And to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't have read this one if she hadn't e-mailed me and asked me to. I did enjoy it. The main characters were captivating and interesting. The plot was fast moving and kept you guessing "who done it" until it was revealed and then it was "when will he strike for the kill" that kept you reading till the end. I read this book in 6 hours and couldn't put it down. A definate good read!

(More customer reviews)I have been an avid Danielle Steel reader for years and with every book you find likes and dislikes. With Irresistible Forces I found Steve to be and honest and hard working individual trying to make the best out of a busy trauma unit, i enjoyed the way Steel sent her lady character around the world on a working business trip with a handsome, sophisticated, wealthy man with no hanky panky, it showed that Merrie had integrity, that she was committed to her husband.. As a dislike, the story was drawn out, it could have been done in less words, there was a lot of repetitiveness, i didn't feel really connected with the characters, you couldn't get into the storyline with them... I'll still add it to my collection of Steel novels but the chances of reading it again are slim to none... Not her best work...

Birthing has never been so humorous as this author makes it. And the emotional growth and changes on the part of these marvelous characters as they learn to forget the past and to create a future makes AN ABUNDANCE OF BABIES a must read. Very highly recommended.

I absolutely adored the first Twilight, Texas book, THE SWEETHEARTS' KNITTING CLUB and didn't see how Lori Wilde would ever top it. Well, Ms. Wilde just proved me wrong because THE TRUE LOVE QUILTING CLUB is even better. I read this book in one day, unable to put it down. Even when I tried, I found myself picking it right back up, needing to devour just one more paragraph, one more page, one more chapter of Sam and Trixie Lynn's story.
Sam Cheek is a huge part of this book's fabulousness. Here's a hero who is such a refreshing departure from the Alpha male. He's Steady Sam. Dependable, quiet, traditional. On the outside he doesn't even seem all that assertive. It isn't until the reader gets to know him that we see that under all those brooding good looks lurks a very passionate man. On top of all that, he's a great father to his son, wonderful with animals, and beloved to the whole town.
In Sam's arms, Trixie Lynn finally finds a place to call home, and with Trixie Lynn, Sam discovers a spontaneous, part of himself that makes him realizes he no longer wants to settle for less than true love. The chemistry between them is superbly written, as is the emotion that leaps off every page.
