Jesse Yellow Thunder, although, a half breed and bounty hunter, represents the best of both worlds. He is a man with morals and convictions and in his heart lies a deep sense of needing to be loved. His scarred face is a burried pain embedded deep in his heart.Kaylynn is a beautiful captive and when they meet, hearts entertwine and souls touch. She has never known love, although the terror and pain of an abusive husband. Together, they learn that love is a healing of the soul that can overcome any obstacle in their way.
Spirit Walker's poems were heart-rendering and held a depth of love that none can match. My compliments to a poet that wrote the word love in so many ways, it captured the heart of this reader!

(More customer reviews)"Echoes" by Danielle Steel, is a wonderfully moving and emotional story of a family of strong and caring women, who for generations seem destined to 'echo' the trials and triumphs of their predecessors. It is a saga so filled with characters that attracted me to their inner strength, their courage and magnetic charms, and had me living the danger and hardships of their times. There were times I actually found myself with a lump in my throat or my heart beating faster, as they devoted themselves, sometimes putting their lives on the line for what they loved and believed in.
In 1915, as War began to loom, and her brothers were off fighting, Beata Wittgenstein, a young, beautiful, intelligent German Jewish woman, fell in love with a handsome and caring French officer. Both loved their families and their countries, but the love they had for each other had no equal. Defying their parents,their traditions, and being cut out of the families, never to be allowed contact again, they sought comfort in each other's arms and married. Not an easy life, they managed to make a home and life for themselves and their two beautiful daughters. Beata converting to Catholicism for her husband, but never forgetting her own deep roots.
It was years later, when a second World War loomed that she anguished as her family disappeared into the horrible fate awaiting them by the Nazis. It's a story filled with love. But it is much more than a romance novel. It has adventure, danger, and the all too real horrors of war. It is one that will touch you on many levels, and one that will stay with you for quite a while after the read.

I refuse to buy the next book to find out who the killer is just on principle. I didn't buy the book to be hooked into a future purchase. I wanted to read a story that has a beginning, a middle, and an ending. Don't waste your hard earned free time on this book because you don't get the ending. That will come out in a year from now!!! I think an author that pulls these tricks needs to go back to school and learn that every story has 3 parts. I will only be a sucker once!!! I will never buy one of her books again!!

(More customer reviews)Ms. Brown's latest effort "Chill Factor" will thrill readers with it layered storylines and characters. As a result the reader will truly be left guessing until the end of the story as to who "Blue" is and why he is doing what he does.
A bad winter storm has moved into the mountains of North Carolina and with it an end to all that has been going on for the past two years. Ben Tierney is caught on a mountainside when an ice and sleet storm hits. His car is not working and he must get off the mountain if he's going to survive. He runs into the chief of police's ex-wife Lilly. Together they find themselves trapped on the mountain with little to no chance of making it back to town alive. Knowing that time is of the essence they head back to Lilly's old cabin to wait out the storm. They have no idea that what started between them the summer before is going to finally be resolved for good or ill. But, when Lilly starts putting things together she fears that she might just be attracted to the serial killer "Blue." Will she live to see justice served?
Ben has a lot to answer for and his secretive nature doesn't help things. The local's have him pegged as a serial killer and he knows things that he probably shouldn't. On top of that there is the burning attraction that he can no longer ignore when it comes to Lilly. Will he be able to keep his secret and help Lilly live to see another day.
Dutch Burton, chief of Police of Cleary and he can't get over the fact that his wife Lilly is gone, and wants nothing to do with him any longer. His stubborn nature combined with the fact that his best friend Wes won't let things settle down only add to the burning in his gut. He will do whatever he must to get Lilly off the mountain and away from Tierney. He can't think beyond his jealousy and this will be a catalyst for events he can not even imagine.
Again, this is a very good story with a so many layers that it would take too long to list them all here. Suffice to say the varied characters, issues, and their outcomes all play a large part in bringing down "Blue." Ms. Brown is one of the few authors published today that can actually introduce more than one storyline and not allow it to drop by the wayside. As a result the story is totally engrossing and entertaining. This is one read and author that I highly recommend.

The Time Traveler's Wife Review

(More customer reviews)"The Time Traveler's Wife" is one of the most interesting, powerful books I've read in a long time. Audrey Niffenegger did a beautiful job taking some of the most complex ideas - time travel, marriage, love, children, friends, literary and artistic allusions, religion, death, drugs, childhood, growing, loss, and what it means to be human - and weaving them together poetically and with amazing clarity. Her characters are wonderful, "real" people with strengths and flaws, and I really grew to adore them. Despite skipping around time at the same rate as Henry, the time traveler, the events are sequenced in such a way that you still witness each character's growth as a person, as well as discover many surprises along the way. Clare and Henry's story is one of the best love stories I've read in a very long time. This book also echoes important modern-day questions about the appropriateness of gene therapy, and what it means to be a human being. I highly and enthusiastically recommend this book.

Honeysuckle Summer (Sweet Magnolias) Review

(More customer reviews)Ms. Woods generally writes a good solid story, but this one contains references to previous stories in the series that are irritating and distracting. I don't want a rehash of what the previous books and their characters did, I've already read that.
I found the use of agoraphobia a trifle contrived and having yet another character with an eating disorder--the subject already covered and recovered in a previous tale or two--makes me wonder if Ms. Woods has lost her imagination.
Those things aside, the characters were fairly strong representations, and though not the best story in the Sweet Magnolias series, it was palatable.

You can bet if Nicholas Sparks puts a book out there, it is going to sell. This scenario is due to his expertise as a storyteller extraordinaire. His latest work, The Lucky One will be touted by readers as one of his best works. Having written books like Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, readers know what they can expect when they buy a Nicholas Sparks book...great characters, great storyline and an electricity that stays with you long after you have finished reading the story.
Sparks main character in The Lucky One is ex-marine, Logan Thibault. Logan has served three tours of duty in Iraq and believes his survival is due to a lucky picture he found of an unknown woman. Once he completes his tour of duty, he walks from Colorado to Hampton, North Carolina in search of the woman in the picture.

(More customer reviews)Answered Prayers is the story of Faith Madison, the stylish, perfect housewife and mother to her husband Alex and daughters Eloise and Zoe. She runs into an old childhood friend, Brad, at her stepfathers funeral. Soon the two are emailing each other multiple times a day and calling each other whenever they aren't emailing. Faith decides to go back to school and maybe become a lawyer. This causes major tension between her and Alex and their two daughters. When Faith returns to school the tension builds and thus the story builds too.
This book was extremely bland. This was almost like reading The Kiss. Except in this book there is no car crash that land Faith and Brad in the hospital. It seems like Ms. Steel uses the same story line in all of her books lately. Faith had absolutely no backbone and Alex was just a complete jerk (like the husband in The Journey). Eloise was nothing short of a witch. Zoe was a spot of sunshine in this book. The character of Brad was a bit too perfect. Always at the phone or computer whenever Faith needed him. This aspect I found extremely odd. Brad is a busy lawyer yet has time to email Faith more than once a day and he's always at his computer or phone whenever she writes or calls.
Ms. Steels latest books have lacked the spark of her earlier works. She tends to repeat herself constantly. The book would be half the size if she wouldn't repeat herself so much. In this book she concentrates on Jack, Faith's deceased brother, way too much. He is brought up in the book as if he's still alive. The whole church aspect of the storyline was off too. Faith, the dedicated churchgoer, only went to church it seemed to light candles. Again, this whole part of the storyline just didn't seem to fit into the story right.
To sum it up....boring book, same as all other books written by Ms. Steel in the past few years. I would recommend revisiting one of her earlier books or if you must read this one, borrow it from the library. Don't spend your hard earned money on this.

Enchantress Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this book on a whim based upon an amazon.com listmania list. Then it sat around on my shelf for awhile. Until one day I was having a bad week and needed a read to get my mind off my troubles. I grabbed THE ENCHANTRESS and by the second page I was hooked. For the next few difficult days I picked up this PB book and it instantly transported me to Morgana & Garrick's world. It had a beautiful romance between the two lead characters which was quite touching, and the sex scenes were heated but not graphic or disgusting. All in all a highly recommended, unexpectedly suspenseful, wonderful romance!

If you are looking for a beach read romance, SUMMER BY THE SEA by Susan Wiggs is not a bad place to start. It's a light summer romance about two lovers, Rosa Capoletti and Alex Montgomery, who are from two different worlds. Her father is a gardener, and Alex's family is wealthy enough to have a summer home in Winslow, where Rosa grows up. It is during the summer months that Alex and Rosa spend time together and eventually fall in love. But due to reasons unknown to Rosa, Alex one summer leaves Winslow, never to return. No phone calls, and no letters. It is as if their relationship, their friendship, never happened.
Rosa is now a successful restaurant owner, burying herself in her work, and Alex lives in the big city, working for his father's firm. When Rosa finds out that Alex has come back to Winslow, after being gone for twelve years, she is filled with conflicting thoughts. She realizes she has never gotten over him, and she also knows that in order to move on, she needs to confront her feelings. Whether she is successful or not is up to the reader to find out.
In the midst of this romance, Susan Wiggs has placed delicious Italian recipes that will have your mouth watering. It also helps lend a summertime atmosphere to the book, enhancing the feel of this romance.
I enjoyed SUMMER BY THE SEA and it's made me a new fan of Susan Wiggs. This was a delightful romance, very enjoyable and fun to read, and I recommend to other romance readers. It's a great escape and probably best read during the summer months. If anything, the recipes will make this book a keeper!

(More customer reviews)This is the first Danielle Steel book I've read. It was really easy to "get in touch" with the characters in this book. Great plot, great characters, GREAT WRITING! For some people, the subject matter may not sit well - some parts of the story are graphic in content. You'll definitely need to keep a box of tissues next to the bed while you're reading this one. It brought tears to my eyes. Very touching story but sadly, some people are like Grace Adams in the real world. It really makes you step back and take a look at things like child abuse and domestic violence. The message this book gave to me was, "If Grace Adams can make it through what she's been through, so can I!!"

Then suddenly found myself in the middle of this wonderful story, biting off all myh nails wondering if they would have to put down the horse, if Blue would ever talk again, what the big secret about Eliza was and if HUnter would ever get his priorities straight! Why did I care so much? I was there, I felt everything, I laughed and cried. Definately a great read-I will tell all my friends about this one.

(More customer reviews)Tami Hoag has revisited one of my favorite characters, Elena Estes, from DARK HORSE. I liked her gutsy in your face style, and her total committment to justice. Her integrety and solid true blue personality are and were captivating to me. This is one of the best books I have read in quite a while.
Elena Estes lives in the guest house of one of her friends who owns a stable and horses in Palm Springs. She lives on disability from the Sheriff's Dept because she was dragged under a pick-up truck while on a bust. She had jumped the gun and one of her friends and co-workers was killed. The bust had gone terribly wrong. If you read DARK HORSE you already know this. Elena has lost much, her job, her friends and her peace of mind. She has slowly healed her body but her guilt never leaves her mind.
Elena is exercising one of the horses belonging to her friend when she discovers the body of the other groom from her stable. Irina has been missing for two days and her body is found floating in a canal; as Elena and Detective Landrey watch an alligator attacks the corpse.
Landrey has allowed himself to fall in love with Elena and with her cynical outlook she has pushed him away. As he works on the case he finds she is a very valuable silent partner.
The story is graphic, with grab you by the throat action and dialogue. A group of wealthy men are the last to see Irina alive. They believe they are entitled to anything they want and no one has a right to question them. They are all wealthy socalite men from the highest ranks of the polo playing crowd. If one needs an alibi they need only call.
The tension is tight and when the steel of justice meets the injustice of patronage and favoritisim Palm Springs will take notice.
This was a stunner and I had no clue who did it until the end of the book. Which clearly showed the importance of wealth and station compared to an everyday average person. Do not miss it. It could have been torn from the headlines today.

(More customer reviews)"Right Next Door" is a reissue of two previously published books by Debbie Macomber. "Father's Day" was originally published in 1991 and "The Courtship of Carol Sommars" was originally published in 1990.
"Father's Day"
Now that Robin Masterson has bought a new house, her ten year old son Jeff wants nothing more than a dog, which unfortunately Robin can't afford. Jeff soon bonds with the dog next door and Robin soon finds herself bonding with the dog's owner Cole Camden. Robin and Jeff seem to break the wall that Cole built around his heart after a devastating tragedy but Robin can't help but wonder if Cole is getting involved with them for the wrong reasons. It will take everything Cole has to convince Robin that he is indeed falling in love with her.
"Father's Day" is a very cute romance by Debbie Macomber. Macomber does a good job of mixing the sad moments (Cole's back story) with some humorous moments (like Robin trying to catch Jeff's pitches or Jeff's idea of how babies are made). The romance between Robin and Cole is a good one and Macomber does a nice job of showing how Cole changes the more he encounters Robin and Jeff. Jeff is a great character who just wants a dog (and a father)."The Courtship of Carol Sommars"
After a disastrous marriage, the last thing Carol Sommars wants is another relationship. But her fifteen year old son Peter has other ideas - he thinks Alex Preston, the father of his best friend James, would be perfect for his mother. Alex thinks so too, but it will take the efforts of all three to help convince Carol that Alex is the right man for her.
"The Courtship of Carol Sommars" is another winner by Debbie Macomber. Carol is a very convincing character who is unsure of her own heart after making the wrong decisions at an early age. Alex is also a good character who is ready to start looking for love again after the devastating loss of his wife. The romantic tension between the two is very well done and by Macomber's standards (her romances are usually very "sweet") this is a hot romance. Peter and James are also good characters although they often seem younger than fifteen. Carol's Italian mother Angelina Pasquale adds a great deal of warmth and humor to the book."Right Next Door" is a nice reissue of two early Debbie Macomber books. Macomber does tend to repeat storylines (a lot of people die in car crashes in these two books) and her younger characters (Jeff, Peter, and James) are a bit too perfect to be true. Still both stories are guaranteed to warm your heart and put a smile on your face. Highly recommended.
